What is checked during a technical inspection? - A complete practical list

Periodic technical inspection of a car is a complex process that includes diagnostics of all the main components of the car. In order to successfully pass the process, it is important to know in advance about the components that are subject to strict control.
Check all these points before passing
Before visiting the inspection center, we recommend that you independently review the list below. This will help you identify obvious defects and save you time.
1. Visual condition and exterior
Cleanliness: The car must be clean (both externally and in the engine compartment) so that the inspector can see all the details.
State numbers: The number must be clearly legible, without damage and illuminated.
Mirrors and windows: Rear-view mirrors must be intact and firmly fixed. Cracks in the driver's visibility zone on the windshield are not allowed.
2. Lighting system
This is an item that some drivers have to inspect repeatedly. Check:
Low and high beam headlights;
Turn signals (front, rear and side);
Brake signals (including additional, central stop signal);
Rear and license plate lights.
3. Brake system and chassis
Brake efficiency: The system should work properly, without fluid leaks.
Parking brake: The so-called "handbrake" should hold the car on an inclined surface.
Tires: The tread depth should not be less than 1.6 mm. Tires of identical size and pattern should be installed on one axle.
4. Ecology and emissions
CO content: The level of harmful gases in the exhaust must comply with the standard established for the year of manufacture of your vehicle.
Airtightness: Leakage/leakage of fuel, oil and coolant (antifreeze) is not allowed.
5. Other technical details
Seat belts: All belts must be functional and securely fastened.
Audible signal: The signal on the steering wheel must work properly.
Indicators: No critical fault signs should be lit on the instrument panel (ABS, Airbag, Check Engine).
Steering mechanism: Excessive free play (so-called "play") or noise when turning is not allowed.
6. Additional equipment (recommendation) Although having a fire extinguisher, first aid kit and emergency signs for passenger cars (category M1) is not a mandatory condition for passing the inspection, it is still recommended to have them in the vehicle due to safety regulations. Please note that having these items is mandatory only for passenger (M2, M3) and freight (N) category vehicles.
